
The Directorate offers various innovative, job-oriented and socially relevant 51 academic programmes in the field of Arts, Science, Information Technology, Education and Management. It has an excellent network of more than 196 Study Centres for providing effective service to the student community.
The Distance Education programmes are also offered in South-East Asian countries such as Singapore and Malaysia; and in Middle-East countries, viz., Bahrain, Qatar, Dubai; and at Sri Lanka. The programmes are well received in India and abroad.


The University has inherited a strong network of over 80 affiliated colleges ,4 Mano Colleges and 2 Constituent College.Many of these colleges have contributed significantly to the cause of higher education, of which six colleges including the Sarah Tucker College, Palayamkottai the oldest women's college in the state,are over 100 years old.


Punjab Technical University (PTU) was established by an act of State Legislature on 16 th Jan-1997, to promote Technical, Management & Pharmaceutical education in the state at the Degree level and above. The University has the mandate to set up centres of Excellence in Emerging Technologies and for promoting Training, Research & Development in these areas. One of the main focus of the University at this time is in the area of professional & skill oriented technologies to the masses.
